World Situation Summary - 8 State

Public Information

  1. Your eight nations represent the main factions in a troubled world situation.

  2. There has been peace on the continent for fifty years. Although, this is a time of extreme nationalism in which most countrymen support their respective governments to the fullest in foreign affairs.

  3. In each country, major newspapers, often with government support, have been conducting a propaganda campaign against other nations. This helps fan the flames of unrest and hatred within each nation.

  4. There has been increased intervention in the underdeveloped parts of the world by opposing factions. Both Caldonia and Penland have made claim to some disputed territory in the rubber rich colonies that are located off the map.

  5. There has been a strong rivalry between Morovia and Yorkton over the Great Forest area located on their common border. This has only worsened with the discovery of oil under the forest. Yorkton possesses 70% of the reserves with Morovia the other 30%.

  6. It has been reported that the oil reserves may extend into the mountain nation of Latavia. However, the terrain may make extraction difficult.

  7. It is rumored that a large deposit of high quality iron ore has been discovered in the mountains of Latavia.

  8. Latavia has historically pursued an isolationist policy, which combined with its attitude of secrecy and distrust of outsiders has made accurate information about the nation difficult to obtain.

  9. Yorkton has also been involved in a dispute with Penland over control of the mouth of the Makeshift River. Yorkton currently controls the area.

  10. Almanar is a relatively new nation, having gained its independence from Morovia in a national referendum. The international community's agreement to declare the Almanar capital as an international and open city is assumed to be the motivation for Morovia's peaceful acceptance of Almanar independence.

  11. A large percentage of the population of Almanar is of Bahkanese descent.

  12. There is a small nationalistic group in Bahkan that resisted the Morovian occupation of Almanar. This group is upset that Almanar was given independence and not annexed by Bahkan.

  13. Caldonia has been somewhat successful in keeping out of some of the squabbles because of her geographical isolation from the neighboring states.

  14. Penland has the most powerful army on the continent and Caldonia is the strongest naval power. It is suspected that Morovia has an expanding armaments industry.

  15. Various nations have entered into military alliances which guarantee mutual support if war begins. Some of these are publicly known, but there are many suspected secret alliances.

  16. Because of the fear between the various nations, generated by the uneasy peace, there has been a continual race to build military armaments.

  17. Yorkton has constructed four massive fortresses to protect its southern border with Penland and Morovia. These fortresses are almost impossible to defeat and capture.

  18. Sandia has been troubled by domestic unrest, and the government is not considered to be very stable. There have been reports that a large faction of unemployed workers and peasants are banding together and are planning a revolution. At this point, there is no reliable information indicating that they would be successful.

  19. Sandia has implemented a military training program. In three years, their army will be upgraded to fair status.

  20. Due to Morovia's central location, the recently completed continental rail network is expected to greatly expand that nation's economy.

  21. Morovia has 1,000,000 reservists rated as poor that can be mobilized within three weeks of the country being attacked. These troops cannot leave Morovia.
